KUALA LUMPUR – 26 Petron dealers were recognised by the Royal Malaysia Police (or PDRM) for their invaluable contributions to the Go-To-Safety-Point (GTSP) programme in 2022. As the first oil and gas company to collaborate with PDRM for GTSP, Petron has now transformed more than 760 Petron service stations into safe locations to provide early emergency assistance.
Shaliza Mohd Sidek, Petron’s Head of Retail Business, said, “Petron is a long-time partner with PDRM for GTSP. This year marks our 10-year collaboration with PDRM in the GTSP programme. We are determined to protect the safety of our communities. We want our customers to feel safe whenever they are at our stations. Through consistent training, everyone at the service stations will be well-trained and capable of offering early assistance to the customers during emergencies.”
The GTSP Programme is an initiative led by PDRM under the government’s “United Against Crime” national programme that aims to ensure the safety and security of local communities. In 2022, Petron’s service stations reported 36 GTSP incidents, including domestic violence, road accidents, and loss of consciousness, to name a few.
When asked about the most unforgettable GTSP incident, Fatnin Syakirah, the service station dealer from Padang Nenas, Terengganu, shared, “We were faced with a challenging situation when a customer accidentally locked his 2-year-old son in the car. The customer went into a state of panic and asked for help from our service station staff. Once we got the customer’s consent, we used a metal ruler and steel instrument to pry open the faulty car door gently. The kid was eventually rescued, unharmed.”
Petron’s GTSP campaign manifests its core commitment to public safety under the social sustainability pillar. All Petron service stations have GTSP window decals for easy identification and a ‘de-stress’ corner for customers to rest/calm down while waiting for the relevant authorities to arrive. The ‘de-stress’ corner is equipped with essential amenities such as a first aid kit box, chairs, and blankets.
“I am impressed by Petron’s steadfast commitment to the GTSP initiative. Their ongoing dedication to promoting public safety is evident through the unique art installation with GTSP messages, and only last year, they launched 10 mural designs using old Malay proverbs to encourage road safety awareness,” remarked Dato’ Azman Ayob, Deputy Director of Operations Bukit Aman Crime Prevention and Community Safety Department (JPJKK) at the Petron’s GTSP recognition event.
In 2022, Petron worked with local artists from Art Battalion to create GTSP murals that embodied the safety messages at its service stations. This year, they selected one of the artworks that features a mother putting a helmet on her daughter and printed it on its eco-friendly hot cup sleeves made of recycled paper. The mural also comes with a classic Malay proverb, “Alah bisa, tegal biasa,” meaning practice makes perfect.
“By putting the GTSP message on the eco-friendly hot cup sleeves, we can instantly convey the significance of safety helmet usage to our customers while they enjoy a hot cup of coffee or tea at our service stations. We hope this serves as a reminder for the public to wear helmets in a proper manner,” added Shaliza.
Meanwhile, Group Managing Director Richiamo Sdn Bhd., Muhamad Zamry Abu Samah, said both parties welcome the collaboration, and Richiamo Coffee will gain excellent exposure, especially for branding purposes. “I see this collaboration beneficial to both parties, and of course, as a local homegrown brand, we are fortunate to have this cooperation, and we are thankful to work with one international brand in this programme,” he said.
Muhamad Zamry added that Richiamo Coffee is looking forward to this collaboration soon as part of the CSR programme and the branding exercise.
The GTSP-branded hot cup sleeve will be available at three Richiamo Coffee[1] outlets attached to the Petron service stations, namely Richiamo Coffee Kuala Kangsar, Richiamo Coffee Bukit Beruntung & Richiamo Coffee Jitra from December 2023 onwards. Petron will also make the GTSP coffee cup available at more Richiamo outlets and over 40 Treats stores under its coffee programme at the service stations.
