Environmental Sustainability
We continue to be vigilant in protecting and preserving the environment through various internal programs that focus on the reduction of waste, emissions, and energy consumption at our Port Dickson Refinery (PDR) and other facilities and plants.
To further our efforts in protecting the environment, we partnered with Municipal Government for the “Kempen Bumi Hijau” a tree planting project and river cleaning initiatives.
Petron Green Lung Forest Enrichment Planting Project
In conjunction with World Environment Day, 45 of our dedicated colleagues, comprising of Petron Malaysia Sustainability Council members and Port Dickson Refinery (PDR) and Terminal staff, joined forces with Yayasan Hijau Malaysia (YHM) and Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) for a tree planting event at the 400 acres of Green Lung area within our PDR.
We are proud to mark this significant milestone with the planting of 600 tree saplings across 3.7 acres of dry lowland forest. Our combined efforts aimed to support the Greening Malaysia Programme, an ambitious government project to plant 100 million trees nationwide by 2025.
The programme focused on enhancing carbon sequestration within the Green Lung area of our PDR, aligning with our environmental philosophy of ‘Protect our Environment Today for a Better Tomorrow’.
There were more than 20 diverse species planted which includes, Merbau (Intsia palembanica), Meranti Tembaga (Shorea leprosula), Cengal (Neobalanocarpus heimeii) as well as fruit trees such as Asam Kandis (Garcinia xanthochymus) and Petai (Parkia speciosa), which are essential for wildlife habitat and sustenance.
As we aim to fuel our nation responsibly, we look forward to implementing more projects that foster environmental sustainability that contribute to a greener future!
